Real Life. Real Moments.
Sometimes Being There Is Enough
A simple phone call reminded me that sometimes people do not need answers. Sometimes they just need someone to listen.
Today, I got a call from a friend and fellow veteran. He served in the U.S. Army. I served in the Marine Corps. Different branches, same understanding in many ways.
There was no emergency. No big problem to solve. No urgent request. He just called. He wanted to talk to someone for a few minutes.
I was busy when the phone rang. I had things I was working on, things I wanted to finish, and like most people, a list that never really seems to end.
But I answered.
We talked for about twenty minutes. Nothing dramatic. Nothing complicated. Just a conversation between two people.
The Call That Matters
It reminded me that we do not always know what someone is carrying. A person can sound fine, look fine, post like everything is fine, and still be dealing with a quiet kind of loneliness.
That is especially true for many veterans, but honestly, it is true for people in general. Not every hard moment looks like a crisis. Sometimes it looks like a regular phone call that comes out of nowhere.
And sometimes, answering that call matters more than we realize.
No Speech Needed
I did not have to fix anything. I did not have to give a big motivational speech. I did not have to pretend I had all the answers.
I just listened.
There is value in that. There is kindness in that. There is support in simply being available when someone reaches out.
A Simple Reminder
If someone crosses your mind today, check on them. Send the message. Make the call. Answer the phone if you can.
A few minutes of your time may mean more to someone than you will ever know.
Why I Wanted to Write This Down
I wanted to keep a record of this moment because it feels important. Sabrosito Coffee is a coffee brand, yes, but it is also being built around real life, real people, family, community, and the small moments that matter.
Coffee has a way of sitting beside those moments. A quiet morning. A hard conversation. A friend calling just to talk. A few minutes where someone feels less alone.
That matters to me.
So today’s reminder is simple:
Be kind when you can. Listen when you can. Check on people when they cross your mind. You may not know why they needed it, but sometimes being there is enough.

If you are struggling or feeling alone, please reach out to someone you trust. You do not have to carry everything by yourself.
